Language Unit
IJAB’s Language Unit deals with issues relating to language and communication in international youth work contexts.
Among its responsibilities is the management of the specialist terminology used in child and youth services in Germany and other countries. IJAB’s Youth Work Translator is an online terminology database with hundreds of terms and their translations that are frequently used in the international youth work and child and youth services community. Many terms are accompanied with an explanation, especially if they are specific to a certain country, notably Germany. Users are invited to help extend the Youth Work Translator by suggesting new entries and/or translations.
The Language Unit provides organisations with advice, training and conferences on using interpretation and managing communication in international youth work settings. One example is the use of language animation during international youth exchanges.
Finally, the Language Unit organises interpretation for IJAB’s own internal events such as expert programmes, meetings and conferences, and procures translation services.
